While I was pondering what particular object around the house held a vast amount of sentimental value to me, I realised that not many of the objects do. There’s a few crockery items that Mum gave me or that have some involved family history, but nothing that I would be devastated to lose in a house fire. My thoughts kept turning instead to images or big ideas of things… daffodils, perhaps, or still, clear full-moon nights, or… giraffes.

Mum had quite a giraffe collection… cushion covers, figurines, plush toys – even her dressing gown had giraffes on it! And the other day I was in Spotlight with my sister, and we saw a longstitch design with giraffes on it… it made us both think of her, and I reckon it will be a long time before it doesn’t.

So, this one’s for Mum!
