Day 23 – Sea Creature

I think the dugong is my favourite underwater mammal. Poor ugly herbivorous things! But in the right light (aka no shore leave for a lot of months) sailors can mistake them for mermaids. Hmm. They’re also dangerously near extinction, so if you see one, please don’t kill it.

I’m feeling rather like a dugong myself today. In the right light (aka in the dark) I could totally be a mermaid. In broad daylight in a tank in some aquarium, I put on a kilo over the last week. Sigh.

I was slightly devastated when I hopped on the scale this morning and discovered this. ‘I’ve been walking!’ I (mentally) cried. ‘I’ve been eating less food! It’s not fair!!’ But as I was walking, with nothing else to think about for thirty five minutes, I became a little more rational. I did splurge yesterday, and I’ve had a few ‘treats’ over the last week that I definitely shouldn’t have. I ate a kinder egg (okay, two kinder eggs, but over three days). I also ate a cupcake that someone gave me (it was a gift, what’re you gonna do?). Yesterday was the day of amazing iced coffees (I didn’t have cream on mine), not-low-fat-version burgers and a sugary, sugary soft drink. It was a lovely day, though!

On a more positive note, I can tell that I’ve left some of my thighs behind somewhere on a walk. It’s probably an imperceptible difference to anyone else, but it’s enough to make me feel that I am making changes, and to inspire me to keep going. I’ll be a dolphin before I know it!
