I love the song ‘Slipping Through My Fingers’… It makes me glad that I had time with Mum when I was grown-up enough to appreciate her and have fun with her. I learned to recognise that our differences of opinion didn’t have to be irreconcilable… and even if they were, we were both entitled to them, and it didn’t mean I had to change to get her approval. I think once I figured that out, I was just glad to spend time with her. I often got this song stuck in my head while she was sick… but it was her ‘slipping through my fingers’, not the other way around. Anyway, this scene from Mamma Mia always makes me tear up a little bit.
