GullyDJ

The focus of my Flickr Friday this week is GullyDJ. According to his profile, He has only been a photographer as a hobby since February this year. That’s two month less than me… and he’s worlds better with his camera, which is the same Fujifilm Finepix s1000fd that I have. (sulk!)

boy

This photo is entitled ‘boy’, and I chose it from the array of photos on GullyDJ’s photostream because it captures something human… there is something so real in the little boy (who is, I believe, the photographer’s son). It’s something that is often lacking in this calibre of photography, but here’s a boy. Here’s a tree. And here’s a relationship, something tangible, between the two.

This photo inspires me on so many levels… not only is the content great, but the clarity and sharpness of the photo are amazing. See, you can even spy the blades of grass on that horizon. The light is perfect, letting silhouetted trunk of the tree fade into the multigreen leaves, stretching the lad’s shadow across with his gaze, reaching toward the tree. And the gorgeous gradient of the blue, blue sky is a brilliant backdrop.

Also on his photostream, GullyDJ displays some gorgeous sunset/sunrise photos, if that’s your thing (it’s not really mine, I’d rather be there in person… but try telling me that when I’m warm and sleepy in bed!) and also an extensive collection of portraits of ‘lonely benches’. I say portraits because each one seems to have a personality of its own, and a story to tell. GullyDJ has a knack for capturing something just a shade more than lifeless in even the stiffest of subjects. If you’re looking for something calming and maybe thought-provoking to look at, you should definitely head over to this flickr account.
