I’ll do it in a Minute

Of course, on the other end of the spectrum from the boring bored are the procrastinating procrastinators. They have too much to do, and not enough time to do it all – so they prioritise. Strange how priorities can shift as deadlines get closer, isn’t it?

‘Procrastination’ is a word that automatically becomes one of the top ten list in your vocabulary when you go to uni. Learning how to spell it is one of the things you do to get out of doing your homework. Because, really, there’s no reason why you can’t be doing coursework most of the time. You have a couple hour’s break between classes, you find a space to sit and pull out your computer – and bam! The time’s gone, and the only things that’ve been worked on are your Farmville crops. Admittedly, your email inbox is never tidier than when you’ve got assignments looming, and your housework is all up to date when there’s an exam to study for… why is it always easier to do the dirty jobs when there’s something important to be done?

I guess the thing about doing the housework, doing the jobs that normally don’t appeal, is that they’re necessary. They have to be done some time. Sure, the ironing hasn’t been done since 1999, but it really should be moved out of the lounge room, and… well, that 2,000 word essay will just have to wait, I’m afraid. The point is, that if you can appease your conscience by justifying doing something else, the stress of ‘ARGH THIS ASSIGNMENT’S DUE TOMORROW AND I HAVEN’T STARTED’ doesn’t sink in, and you can feel righteous for doing something worthwhile.

The amazing phenomenon of procrastination is the interesting, bizarre and slightly delusional invention of  students everywhere, and this blog is a prime example of it. I have just under two weeks to complete two hefty assignments… but I haven’t posted a proper blog on here for so long, I just felt it was absolutely crucial that I write this one! And one thing’s for certain – I definitely can’t complain of being bored!
