Number Nine
Yesterday’s post was of Heidi’s birthday cake – which we devoured quite happily today! Everything was perfect – the chocolate cracked beautifully, the cake wasn’t too soggy, the candle stood up in it’s little drilled hole. I’m rather proud of the whole effort, actually! Now we’ve just dispatched the family, I’ve cleaned up the majority of the stickiness that’s spread from one end of the house to the other, and I think it’s time for a coffee and leftover chocolate!
Heidi is nine now… I can remember nine years ago (isn’t that lucky?!) – I was in grade 8, and my sister had been married a year. I was still trying to figure out how the whole sister thing worked over a distance, and then this baby came along and everything got reshuffled again. I got my first pair of glasses a few weeks after Heidi was born, and I remember thinking ‘well, she’s never gonna know what I looked like without glasses…’ and I carried photos of her around in my school planner. I was self-conscious and shy, and rather less mature than I imagined I was. This was the year that I became friends with Andrew and Daniel (in art class, because Sofia had a crush on Roo) and through them, everyone else that I hung with in high school. Those friendships changed the way I made friends, too… so they affected my college and uni life as well! 2002 was a pretty life-changing year, taken all-in-all!
What’s your stand-out memory from the year 2002?

Haha, just before I found your comment I was thinking ‘oh, I was a cow to Dan before we made friends… I really should apologize!’ I’m sorry too! Don’t remember you being mean, tho.
Remember our plaster hand piece? I remember your sketch of a hand with the bone sticking out the end… macabre person!
