On Top of a Mountain

Mount Barrow. It’s a whole 15km off the main highway before the ascent begins, and it doesn’t take much more than half an hour to reach the top. Tasmania’s mountains are a bit like its beaches – not very far away and easy to access. Today’s trip up the little hill I can see from my loungeroom window was great. The ice filled in the crags on one side of the mountaintop, and lay in patches between the native shrubs that carpet the reserve, lending eerie olive and maroon hues to the landscape that is already strange from innumerable stone conduits and spindly towers.

I took some photos. None of them turned out especially well, but I had fun and that’s what counts! Oh, and the couple silhouetted in some of the shots were just some random tourists who happened to be standing on the edge of the rocks in front of me.
