Painted Faces – Aussie

I hope that, wherever you are and however you celebrate it, you have a fantastic Australia Day tomorrow. For the rest of the world – Happy Tuesday!

I think the blue and red irises in this picture creep me out more than most other things I’ve done with this series. But, enjoy! I’ve planned a break from the painted faces set for tomorrow, mainly because I already had the post written before I came up with these. I’m heading up to Ringarooma today, so I’ve got the posts for the next few days all scheduled to roll out at midday each day. Have a brilliant week, people!

I’m loving the Painted faces series, its very different from what I’m used to seeing from you and experimenting with different styles is always good :-) I can’t wait to see what the rest of the week gives us.

But on the Australian Flag side of the whole thing, it makes me wonder what everyones opinions are on the issue of removing the union jack from the flag. I think it’s a stupid idea, mainly because thats the flag and changing isnt going to change our history.

I like this too! The face-painting is a cool new thing. The eyes are cool too.

I think the union jack should be removed, It represents Australia being basically a servant to the “mother country”. Tradition for traditions sake suggests stagnancy, and back to the old days of an Empire that caused havoc by invading countries and forcing their society/culture onto the “inferiors” with their royal fist. Australia runs themselves now, so it should be removed. Let it be remembered in the pages of a history book.

I couldn’t really give a hang about the union jack, but I do love the red, white and blue. I know it’s cliche and it’s like all the rest of the colonies’ flags, but somehow it feels good. I have a horrible feeling a replacement flag might depend heavily on the green and gold… and that’s just not cool. There have been suggestions about using the Aboriginal flag instead, but that’s not right either… A compromise that uses the southern cross and burnt dirt orange, eucalypt green, ocean blue, with black and white in there somewhere… heck, let’s just steal South Africa’s flag!

Or how about the union jack just gets removed, and move the large star up a little and to the left. Maybe make it gold/yellow. There’s a pic of it online. Also where the points are made out better for all sides.
