And welcome back to Whose Blog Is It Anyway? Where everything’s made up and the posts don’t matter.
I’ve got some rather… ambitious… news for you today, darlings. I am
subjecting myself to undertaking an experiment. For the whole month of September 2013. Starting tomorrow. It is a… (fanfare please)
I have written a lengthy tome on the ins and outs of the challenge, but I think it’s too long and preachy to post here. However, I also believe it is important. Please check it out here if you have a few moments.
Meanwhile, here’s the synopsis:
When I purchase something, it must be a necessity. Something actually required to live. Basically, what you buy when you’ve got $20 to last you til next Thursday. If the item I want to purchase isn’t a necessity, it has to be a socially responsible choice. This means locally sourced, no sweat shops, minimal carbon footprint, and all those other things that we would like to consider every day but somehow never do when we’re suffering a sugar crash in a big chain supermarket.
When I was fleshing out the plan for this challenge, I realised it’s not just about saving money by not buying junk, and it’s not just about boycotting unethical practices or just about saving the environment… it’s all three rolled into one convenient lifestyle choice.
I will be posting regularly through the month… I’m foreseeing a drastic learning curve in my immediate future. Let’s get this show on the road.
