Sharing Some Smiles

I’ve found quite a few interesting sites to browse through lately, and so today I thought I’d share two that I’ve only recently discovered, even though they’ve probably been around for years. They’re both sites that have been established to let people share good moments in life and counteract some of the more depressing things! That may sound a little sickly, but I very much suggest you visit them before you pass an opinion, and get a little of that holiday spirit flowing!

The first site is Operation Beautiful. In the words of the site’s creator, “The mission of Operation Beautiful is to post anonymous notes in public places for other women to find. The point is that WE ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL.” The notes can be as simple as a reminder to “smile”, or the declaration “you’re beautiful”, but I bet every one of them that’s ever been stuck somewhere has made someone’s day a bit brighter! I’m going to have a post-it pad and a pen with me at all possible times from now on… I dare you to help spread the love, too! In a more seasonal note, there is a post on the site today that describes how a woman included operation beautiful notes in her Christmas cards! That’s a brilliant idea, and one I’ll have to file away for future reference!

The second site is less girly (although I don’t see why men can’t share the OB love too!), but probably even more powerful. It’s GivesMeHope.com, and it was created to retaliate to the website FMyLife.com. The message here is all about optimism, and every post finishes with ‘GMH’ (for gives me hope). I get hooked clicking through the pages – some of them make you cry, some make you laugh, and nearly all of them make you smile. I’ll share my favourite post from the last few days – but if you get hooked, it’s not my fault!

A baby girl started crying on the bus this morning and someone asked her if she knew Jingle Bells. The little girl didn’t answer, so the person started to sing. After about a minute I had counted nine people, including parents and myself singing along. Spontaneous bus choirs GMH.

Hope you found something to smile about today! My smiles came from shop assistants going out of their way to help my mother with her shopping, a smile and an unexpected “Merry Christmas” from a woman in the street, and hearing my favourite Christmas song when I walked into a store. What made you smile today?
