SimSunday – Meet the Blackberries.

My story starts with a young, blonde and fresh-faced woman of twenty. Her name was Rachel Blackberry, and she was destined for greatness. She arrived in the small town of Sunset Valley unannounced and largely unnoticed, rented a small house on Water Lily Lane, and took up a lowly position at the local newspaper. With her small savings she bought herself a laptop, and she would spend the balmy evenings underneath a comfortable tree in her back yard, writing endless stories.Very soon, Sunset Valley began to notice her. Her books skyrocketed to international bestseller lists, and at the same time her career in Journalism took off. By the time she was twenty five, Rachel had earned the prestigious post of weather broadcaster, and her B-grade celebrity status was confirmed.

One person in particular had begun to notice Rachel. His name was Cycl0n3 Sw0rd, a young genius and computer whiz who spent more time hacking into national systems than writing investigative news articles, his legitimate job. Intrigued by his self-confident swagger and omnipresent sunglasses, Rachel cornered Sw0rd for an interview. The article she wrote was both flattering and clever, and with it she won not only the hearts of her bosses, but also the rather less worthy love of Cycl0n3. He swept her off her feet and into his bed – only to kick her out a week later. Although neither knew it at the time, Rachel was already pregnant. When Cycl0n3 found out, he offered to move in with her – but his resolve only lasted a few days, and Rachel was worried that his blatant disregard for the law was a bad influence on her child. This time it was her who kicked him out.

With the large salary she was now earning, Rachel moved out of her rented home and bought a block of land on the outskirts of town, overlooking the sea. As soon as her house was built, she moved in, and just a month later her son was born, a titian-haired heir who had inherited his father’s genius and his hair colour, but thankfully little else. Cyclon3 was at the hospital when Jaye was born, but as soon as she was back home he disappeared again. In the following years, he would stop by for birthdays and on the odd occasion besides, but he never stayed long. Both Rachel and Jaye would eagerly await these brief visits, and both seemed to worship him despite his heinous shortcomings.

When Jaye turned twenty one, his mother became the star news anchor for the nation’s number one broadcasting company. Her novels were household names, and she decided to invest in her favourite business in Sunset Valley – the local Salon. As the years passed, her fortune grew, and so did Jaye’s love of fitness and logic. Determined to become an astronaut one day, he spent hours every day training, and found a position at the bottom of the food chain at the local barracks. His fit physique and cute hairstyle were very attractive, and it wasn’t long before Jaye had lovers swooning at his feet. He kept his (multiple) relationships discreet, but eventually he found himself falling, despite himself, for petite Paris, his mother’s daily maid. He ended all other relationships and settled into a routine of puppy-like adoration and caring for his aging mother. Life was easy and happy… until tragedy struck.

Tune in next week to find out what happened in the lives of Jaye and Rachel! SimSunday should become a weekly habit – at least until the stories get repetitive. Check out iDigDan to read another SimStory each Sunday. Also, I apologise for the lack of photos to accompany my story… I didn’t plan to start narrating until we got a few generations down the line. In other news, this week’s theme for the ii-blog challenge is ‘SUMMER’ – take it up or come back to check it out tomorrow.
