The Snake Lady
I don’t know who this photo is of, when it was taken, or why she has a snake! It’s a portrait I fished out of the cache of old photos under the spare bed, and there’s nothing to explain it. I love the apparent bizarreness of it, though!
I’ve always thought I’d like a pet snake, actually. A big one. Also, a de-venomed one. But as pets go, they’re pretty cool. No fur to make me sneeze, no lengthy neighbourhood walks or annoying barking at night. Granted, they might not be the warmest and snuggliest of pets, but I bet I could love one, given time. And I’d have plenty of time, since the average lifespan of a carpet python is upwards of 20 years. They’re also “not known to be aggressive”, but kinda “non-responsive” as well (Burke’s Backyard says so). I’m not entirely sure Burke’s Backyard are trying to sell these though… Listed under INTERESTING FACTS: “Another python, the “Burmese Python’ has been known to eat humans”… great, very confidence inspiring! Maybe that’s why they’re also recommended for owners who are “non-squeamish”.
Whichever way you twist it, I won’t be owning a snake any time soon. Potential reptile owners have to apply for a special permit, and Tasmania won’t let you own a snake that isn’t native to the state. Maybe one day, when I’m rich and notorious, with an awesome villain name like Octopussy, and I own my own tropical island, with impressive, handsome secret service agents trying to destabilise my reign of… Or, you know, when I’ve got a son who desperately wants a snake (after he turns 10, of course).

heh, cool pic.
Yeah I want a pet turtle. but Aussie laws… ohh, we had a pet blue-tongue lizard who was hilarious, little scratchy feet. And He used to snuggle up and sleep with our pet cat Midnight. It was adorable. And then he’d hiss at the other cats who used to be scared of him and just follow him around hiding (hunting?) around corners.
