The Tech Debate
During my seven-day challenge within a challenge to post “a tech photo every day”, I seem to have inadvertently started a small war. Now, I put that title in inverted commas, because those five words embody the very crux of the matter. In this post I questioned the definition of the word “Tech”, and ever since there’s been quite a debate raging over there – even my plea for a time out was completely ignored. I thought it would be a nice wrap-up to the challenge (yes! today is the last day! regular Photember resumes tomorrow!) to summarise our findings and see if we can get some closure, here.
The debate was mainly centered around two schools of thought (and I’m talking about mere opinions here, people. I don’t give a hang about evidence, proven or otherwise). The first definition of the word “technology” was my own, posed in the actual post: Technology describes anything man-made that has a function and a purpose – things that are constantly changing and evolving as men (and women) get ever better at creating faster, smarter, smaller things. This means that, as Andrew so aptly pointed out, the first stone wheel is, in fact, technology. And so is my 1950′s camera.
The second opinion is that the word “tech” is most commonly applied to the most up-to-the-minute advances in this field… at this point, digital technology – including computers, cameras, music gear – is what the general public refers to as technology (thanks, Adam). This is, of course, absolutely correct, and in the instance of this challenge, when Dan came out with “you have to post a tech photo every day”, he was referring to digital photography, since that’s what he usually includes in his blogs.
Verdict: Okay, I cheated a little, but I didn’t actually break the rules. And the debate was fun, right guys? Guys?
Also, Dan did a great job with his non-tech challenge, you can check it out at his site.

BTW:: BTW:: Its in your blog entry that you call it Photember, which Im assuming references November? Is the @AnnaRelle going to continue photoblogging?

I gets confused. Photember sound so much more awesome. And 1 out of three still qualifies for tech status! booyah! And probably not everyday photo blogging for November, no.

Hey Adam, the language I was using on the thread was antagonistic cos I intially thought it was just friend baiting, it seems I had an error of judgement and was wrong in that regard. I did not think the topic was serious. However, you have also underestimated your use of language, and to say I’m the only one to say hurtful things would be incorrect.
My language was stronger and directly offensive, which I apologise for, but your total disregard of my and other’s interests and opinions was offensive to me. While it probably wasn’t deliberate, what you wrote strongly implied a disregard towards me and my attributes.

Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is valuable and everything. However think of if you added some great pictures or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and clips, this website could definitely be one of the most beneficial in its niche. Terrific blog!
