Tree Challenge

It’s just about time for another Photoshop challenge, this time proposed by Dan. The original image is this lovely rural scene, featuring a dead (or wintery, you pick) tree. I was determined to make the most of my new tablet for this challenge – and here we go. Original image:

The first picture is a little bit idealistic, a little bit preachy – but that’s just how it turned out, so deal with it! My point is that kids are the future (ooh, did everyone get that cliché? You want me to say it again?), and they have the answers, or they will when we teach them to think properly (in an independant way, not a nazi kind of way). The line is from a song (where else?)by Troy Cassar-Daley, about racism between Aboriginal peoples and white Australians mostly, and hopefully something in the art reflects that – but there’s an environmental theme as well, and… yeah. I don’t want to harp on about it too much, at the risk of sounding too self-righteous or anything else. So moving on… picture:

The second piece was the one I did first, actually… I didn’t hang around to see if it’s finished or not, I just decided that it wasn’t going where I wanted it to and saved a copy before I started over. I spent so much time drawing the tree, I didn’t want to waste it on any old thing. I think you’ll probably see much more of this tree, if you stick around long enough. Picture: (click to enlarge)

So, thoughts? You like the style? You hate the style? Anything you think could be improved? Feedback! :-) Thank you!

I love both of them, if only I was creative enough :(

I really love the second one! Wish you had persised with it! It’s something I’d like to do but can’t visualise in my head until someone else has done it… perfect colours, and the swiggly lines.

White children with western tertiary gender qualities….are the future? sorry, i couldn’t resist. :-p

I actually (for once) agree with andrew i liked the second one better, the who things reaching out of the world has been done before but i like the spin you put on it yourself with your own style. Although it does give off that mother nature heal, the world vibe, and then wack a black hole in there too :p ha ha 1+ for no 2

I am going to have to join the group here. I prefer the second one as well! I personally do not think it needs anymore, I’d say if you added anymore it would be a little over done maybe? Depending on what you did I guess…
I dont agree with Adam, I dont think it has a mother nature heal vibe, to me it is more a nature is going into a black hole because of the way everyone is treating the planet (I think we need to put captain planet back on TV!)
Regardless, I do like them both *thumbs up*

yeah, looking back even I like the second one better… sigh. Maybe one day i’ll redo it.

Actually, there wasn’t any idea of an environmental theme behind the second one – just a giant-trees-on-tiny-planets-in-space kind of mental feeling. I wanted to put more trees in in the distance, but it just looked bad.
