Walking Away - Self Portrait by Nic Temby

Today’s photoblog isn’t my own… but I wish it were! I took a page out of iDigDan’s blog and trawled through the photos on flickr that were all produced by the same camera as mine. The Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd is ranked second out of Fujifilm cameras on Flickr, and rapidly climbing towards first place. It’s a little, nowhere-near-professional, semi-DSLR point-and-shoot with some options for manual settings if that’s your thing. I’m slowly (slo-o-owly) learning how to use the manual settings. Maybe, when I do, I’ll get some fantastic pictures like these.

SO, the flickr’er I have been looking at lately is Nic Temby. She is a young photographer with a beautiful, unique style. My personal favourites from her photostream are mostly the dress-up/setting self portaits like the one above. I love walking away for the colours, the setting and the composition… she nails every aspect of good design on the head, and wraps it all up in a gorgeous parcel she calls a self-portrait.

Nic participated in a 365-day self portrait challenge, and every single one of those entries is absolutely stunning. One day (one day) I would love to be able to use my camera the same way she uses hers… to capture a beautiful shot with the right clarity, depth of field and lighting to ultimately produce gorgeous colours and contrasts, tied together with awesome composition and content.

… enough superlatives. If you would like to see more of Nic Temby’s work (and I highly recommend it) head on over to her Flickr account.

Back tomorrow with my own photo.. but don’t expect anything as great as this!
